Indie artists’ chance of a lifetime

Media Release | An opportunity for an independent Australian artist or band to win a music-career boosting package is now open.

Several Australian music businesses have joined forces to offer this music career scholarship, valued at $50,000, to one talented, independent, Australian artist or band.

The scholarship includes production of an album, a professional photo shoot and video clip, 500 copies of a CD, a website, set up and management for three months of social media accounts, professional written materials, electronic press kit, business plan, marketing consults and media coaching.

Robert Mackay, CEO of Pacific International Music said, “Australia has an enormous abundance of talent. We want the scholarship to give us a current snapshot of that talent and provide the winner with a big leg-up in the industry.”

Gordon Williams, dubbed the “Commissioner”, a multi-Grammy award-winning producer and engineer with a string of multi-platinum and gold records under his belt will be joining the scholarship as a key judge.  The Commissioner has worked with artists such as Amy Winehouse, Santana, Alicia Keys and Lauryn Hill.

The Commissioner said, “This is a real opportunity for aussie artists to break into the international scene. Pacific International Music, the producers and publishers, have great connections in the US, so for the right person, with talent and drive, they could be performing to an international audience much sooner than they think”.

The scholarship is open to Australian independent artists and bands, 16 years and over, able to complete the scholarship within the next 12 months.

“There are so many talented independent artists out there that could really benefit from this scholarship, it is going to be tough to judge,” said Karen Andrews, General Manager of JMusic Australia. “We will be looking for unique music and talent and proof that the successful applicant has the drive to put in the hard-yards and go the distance.”

Applications close 31 July 2014. Visit to apply.
